Outreach - Private Lessons

We encourage martial artists and neighboring schools to attend our free study groups, host a free seminar on old-style karate, and/or sponsor one or more of our specialized training modules.

All of these options are recommended and preferred over private lessons. The advantages of small-group training consist of making new friends, exchanging ideas and experience, exchanging partners, to name a few... With more than one student attending from the same dojo, students have the advantage of getting together at any future time to review the new information and help each others.

I always preach my students that consistency in training is everything. I have given private instruction before, in karate, language skills, software, civil engineering and other topics, and came to realize from personal experience and observation that practice makes all the difference. While private students come out of a private intense session with tons of information, unless they take the information to heart and practice religiously, both physically and mentally, well, the information fades away within days...

With all of the above stated, time permitting, I will honor requests for private instruction when they come from serious adults, or from parents of a very dedicated and/or gifted child. I always recommend private training to last more than one or two sessions, but this depends on the particular interest, level and age of the individual.

Here are the rates for private instruction, which, if I may quote lawyers here, are subject to change without prior notice:

Private Lessons
$40/Hour (as compared to $60 typical at most schools)
 
Semi-Private (2 People)
$20/Hour/Student  (as compared to $30 typical at most schools)
 
Semi-Private Monthly Program (our most popular)
$200/month/student
- This program requires two students
- The fee covers 4 training sessions, 4 hours each.
- Sessions will be spread approximately one week apart.
- This will equal a total of 16 hours within a one-month period, equivalent to $12.5/hour/student (considered a great deal)
