Private Lessons
for Koryukan-Frederick students
I have turned down requests for private instruction from several students/parents in the past, in over 95% of the cases I would say. The main reason being that some parents/students desire at times to take a few lessons to better their chances to be invited to an upcoming test, or to change the invitation status from "not invited this time around" to "invited".
Being a parent to two "wonderful" kids myself, I certainly do not underestimate or mean to disrespect a parent's desire for their child to excel, and appreciate in many ways the financial sacrifice that many parents were willing to take to "better" their kids. One has to remember here that private instruction does not come cheap.
Boys and girls, dear students and parents, the more and more you get involved in karate, the more you will realize with time that belts do not mean much, and are merely a motivation tool for kids, and a major source of income for martial-art businesses. It would be of relevance here to refer the reader to this website's section on Ranks, to minimize the risk of repeatnig myself.
I always preach that consistency in training is everything. I have given private instruction before, in karate, language skills, software, civil engineering and other topics, and came to realize from personal experience and observation that practice makes all the difference. While private students come out of a private intense session with tons of information, unless they take the information to heart and practice religiously, both physically and mentally, well, the information fades away within days...
Now, we all know that our kids do not practice daily and intensly, so I am advising you upfront to save your money.
With the above stated, time permitting, I will honor requests for private instruction when they come from serious adults, or from parents of a very dedicated and/or gifted child. I always recommend private training to last more than one or two sessions, but this depends on the particular interest, level and age of the individual.
Here are the rates for private instruction, which, if I may quote lawyers here, are subject to change without prior notice:
