Whassup Sensei?
S
ensei is a term commonly misunderstood, therefore misused, and can commonly imply expert or master to the uneducated "consumer". This cannot be further away from the truth. As a matter of fact, teaching accreditation and licensing versus proficiency and mastery of the topic at hand are two separate but complimentary entities.

Sensei is a Japanese word that simply means Instructor, the literal translation being person who comes before.

In terms of leading and directing a dojo (martial art school), a dojo in the modern Japanese karate setting would typically and traditionally have one and one sensei. While we respect this and other aspects of the tradition, we are not strong about this point. As a matter of fact, students feel free to call any and all instructors in any class Sensei. They also call us using Mr. or Ms. followed by our first or last name.

Below we will be posting photos of our team of instructors. For now, here is one from our end-of summer picnic that took place on Sat. 9/15/06 at Baker Park. From left to right. Guy Hofer, Charles Radi and Bradley Fields.
